Mandheling is a world-renowned coffee and a premium variety among Indonesian coffees, with Golden Mandheling being the exceptional choice among Mandheling coffees. Golden Mandheling must undergo three strict manual selections to obtain full-bodied, lustrous Mandheling coffee beans. The flavor of Golden Mandheling is mellower than regular Mandheling, maintaining Mandheling's bold character while displaying a casual elegance with subtle sweet aftertaste. Not only is it smooth on the palate with a rich body, but compared to regular Mandheling, Golden Mandheling offers a cleaner and more refreshing taste with noticeable aftertaste, featuring distinct chocolate aromas and clear herbal notes, with pine flavors and caramel texture being particularly prominent.

Today's Indonesia is a major coffee-producing country. Coffee is primarily grown in Java, Sumatra, and Sulawesi, with Robusta varieties accounting for 90% of total production. Sumatran Mandheling, however, is a rare Arabica variety. These trees are cultivated on mountain slopes between 750 and 1,500 meters above sea level. The mysterious and unique Sumatra has endowed Mandheling coffee with rich aromas, full body, and intense flavors. More uniquely, it carries subtle chocolate and syrup notes.

Golden Mandheling tastes cleaner than regular Mandheling. The herbal, earthy, and woody notes found in regular Mandheling are nearly undetectable in Golden Mandheling, while the caramel sweetness is more intense, and the fruit acidity is brighter and more elegant. Golden Mandheling possesses excellent clarity and sweetness, offering greater flexibility in roasting interpretation.

Traditional wet-hulling method will revolutionize your understanding of Golden Mandheling. Unlike traditional processing methods, this approach shortens drying time and enhances concentration. In terms of flavor, caramel and fruit notes are particularly prominent, with slight woody and herbal notes, earning it recognition as the classic "taste of place" for Sumatran coffee.

Golden Mandheling is processed with more meticulous techniques. Coffee beans are hand-picked and processed using the semi-washed method, followed by four rounds of manual bean selection to remove defective beans. The processed green coffee beans are complete and uniform in size, with rich flavors featuring intense richness and vibrant, lively characteristics. It is neither astringent nor acidic, fully revealing its body and bitterness.

Origin: Indonesia, Sumatra, Java Island

Altitude: 750-1,500 meters

Processing Method: Semi-washed

Flavor Notes: Toasted bread, nuts, pine, caramel, herbs

Brewing Golden Mandheling using pour-over method is quite different. Medium-dark roasted Mandheling belongs to the full-bodied coffee category. The Kono filter cup is recommended, with a slightly coarser grind than typical light-medium roasts. To avoid over-extraction, the brewing time should be shorter and the water temperature lower - this is essential for medium-dark roasted Golden Mandheling.
