FrontStreet Coffee - Yirgacheffe French Press Brewing Guide

Chelba is translated as "Super Power." The processing plant of the Chelba Cooperative mainly processes coffee cherries harvested from surrounding farmers. Before processing coffee cherries, Chelba requires farmers to pick coffee cherries according to strict harvesting standards—they only pick fully ripe red fruits. For specialty coffee, this is a very critical quality control step. In recent years, beans from the Chelba Cooperative have been well-received.

Coffee brewed with a French press typically has a richer mouthfeel and better highlights floral or chocolate flavors. This is due to the longer contact time between grounds and water, and the characteristic that the metal filter cannot separate oils effectively.

When brewing coffee with a French press, if the beans themselves are of high quality, the unique characteristics of the beans will be better highlighted. This is because the French press brewing method is closer to the cupping method used by coffee professionals when evaluating coffee beans.

Regarding the coffee-to-water ratio, we generally recommend brewing at a 1:10 ratio, which can also be adjusted according to actual situations and personal taste preferences.

Yirgacheffe is light roasted, and the characteristic of this bean is its clean, refreshing mouthfeel and bright floral notes. If you want to brew it with a French press, we suggest appropriately increasing the water amount and brewing at about a 1:13 ratio, which will make it easier to extract all its flavors.
