Sidamo Guji Natural Process Sidamo What are the Characteristics of Sidamo Coffee
FrontStreet Coffee - Sidamo Coffee Characteristics Introduction
The Sidama premium coffee region is located in southern Ethiopia, southwest of the Yirgacheffe area. As is well known, Ethiopian coffee has always been synonymous with premium coffee and is among the world's finest coffees. Ethiopia is also the birthplace of coffee. Ethiopian coffees are basically named after their producing regions - for example, the well-known Yirgacheffe region produces Yirgacheffe coffee, while the Sidamo region produces Sidamo coffee, and so on.
The industry in the Sidamo region is primarily agricultural, with coffee growing areas mainly located around the Great Rift Valley. The elevation ranges from 1,500 to 2,200 meters, featuring high altitude, abundant sunshine, and plentiful rainfall.
The greatest advantage of this region lies in its soil fertility, which is maintained through the cycling of organic matter, using withered leaves from surrounding trees or residual plant roots as fertilizer. The original ecological growth environment has created distinct differences and characteristics in the coffee produced by various towns. The processing method has a profound impact on coffee flavor expression, and Sidamo coffee is no exception. Washed Sidamo coffee possesses bright, clean taste characteristics, with fresh fruit notes and straightforward floral plant aromas, featuring a bright and clear texture.
Natural processed Sidamo coffee, on the other hand, offers rustic and rich fruit-like flavors - sweet, juicy, with ripe fruit notes and a red wine-like body (texture). For example, Sidamo Flower Queen reveals the sweet fragrance of passion fruit, which appears in both the dry aroma and the aftertaste.
High-quality natural processed coffees require more meticulous care, with higher demands on weather and coffee cherry ripeness, making them rarer than washed coffees. This differentiation applies to almost all coffees.
