FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Pour-Over Coffee Ratio
When we drink tea, what we're actually tasting is the flavor nurtured by the variety, origin, and the collaborative efforts of farmers and tea masters. The same holds true for coffee. As mentioned in our previous articles, when we drink lattes, Americanos, or espresso, what we're truly experiencing are the flavors that varieties, origins, and farmers have collectively nurtured and bestowed upon the coffee beans.
These flavors are what make coffee truly valuable. Not all coffees can present elegant and comfortable malic acid, nor can all coffees provide us with delightful nut, toffee, or chocolate flavors.
Beyond beverages derived from espresso, are there other ways to enjoy such precious products? Yes! And it's quite simple! That's pour-over coffee!
As mentioned in previous articles, the method for making pour-over coffee is quite simple. Basically follow a 1:15 coffee-to-water ratio, with water temperature ideally between 90-93°C. First rinse the filter paper, then distribute the coffee grounds evenly, and finally brew, drip filter, and serve. Control the total time within 2.5 minutes. Grinding settings aren't mentioned here because different brands of grinders have variations in grind coarseness, making it impossible to provide uniform values.
The Taste of Pour-Over Coffee
Acidity: Fruity acidity, not vinegar-like
Sweetness: Caramel + caramel aroma
Bitterness: The less, the better
Aroma: Clear and distinct – the most precious quality
Balance: The pleasant sensation resulting from the combination of all these elements
