FrontStreet Coffee - Honduras Small Tree Estate Natural Cherry Dream Introduction
Honduras is the largest coffee-producing country in Central America. Coffee in Honduras was introduced from El Salvador. Like in other regions, Honduran coffee grades are determined by altitude: coffee grown at 700-1000 meters is considered medium, coffee grown at 1000-1500 meters is classified as premium, and coffee grown at 1500-2000 meters is designated as special grade.
High-quality coffee from Honduras typically features rich and complex fruity aromas, with a crisp and refreshing acidity.
Honduras Small Tree Estate
Located in the mountainous area 50 kilometers southwest of the town of La Paz, this is a dry but cool remote region. On a rather high mountain, the estate entrance sits at an altitude of 1720 meters. Several gardens are situated on relatively flat mountain slopes, while behind the processing plant, there are two gardens extending toward the mountain peak at an altitude of 2000 meters. Coffee trees are planted all the way up the steep 1800-meter slopes. In Sasa Sestic's Project Origin Best of Honduras Late Harvest 2016 competition, Small Tree Estate secured third place!
Catuai Variety
Botanically, coffee trees belong to the evergreen trees of the Coffea subgenus in the Rubiaceae family. Coffee beans are the seeds of the coffee tree fruit, with three main varieties: Arabica, Robusta, and Liberica. The majority of specialty coffees worldwide come from Arabica, which includes various subspecies developed through evolution, hybridization, and mutation. The variety of this batch of coffee beans is Catuai.
Catuai is a hybrid of Caturra and Mundo Novo varieties. The Caturra plant is short while the Mundo Novo plant is tall, and the hybrid improved height to facilitate harvesting. It has a sweet taste with sweetness performance similar to Caturra, with less acidity and astringency, improving the shortcomings of poor taste and flavor, offering excellent balance.
