FrontStreet Coffee - Honduras Violet Morod Manor Wine Fermentation Introduction

Honduras

Honduras has approximately 280,000 hectares of coffee plantations, with about 565 million coffee trees currently cultivated. Over 95% are small farms, with more than 120,000 households involved in production. Most coffee plantations are smaller than 3.5 hectares, with 70% of families owning less than 2 hectares each. These smallholder coffee plantations account for 60% of Honduras' total coffee production. Central farms make up about 3%, while large farms constitute approximately 2%.

Since 2007, under the leadership of the IHCAFE Coffee Institute, Honduras has improved its coffee growing environment and green bean processing equipment, enhancing port export efficiency. Although its international market recognition remained relatively low at the time, there was significant improvement. In terms of production, from 2011-2012, Honduras gained moderate fame in Central America, harvesting approximately three million bags of coffee annually.

Morod Manor

Morod Manor is located in the Lempira sub-region of Honduras. The local Arabica coffee trees are relatively small, typically growing to about 3 feet in height, which makes harvesting very convenient. In acidic soil and warm environments, the farm's green coffee beans are uniform in size, producing coffee with a smooth mouthfeel when extracted.
