FrontStreet Coffee - Guatemala Antigua Coffee Introduction

Most coffee produced in Guatemala is Arabica. The processing method is washed. The growing altitude ranges between 2,300-5,600 feet. Harvesting is done almost entirely by hand. Harvesting is possible year-round, but the main harvest period is from July to April of the following year. The Antigua region produces Guatemala's best coffee, where traditional lifestyles are still maintained and it is situated between three volcanoes. Coffee farm owners from Antigua possess rich horticultural knowledge and are passionate about producing great coffee.

Antigua Island

Is a famous coffee-producing region. Rich volcanic soil, low humidity, strong sunlight, and cool evening breezes are the characteristics of the Antigua region. Three spectacular active volcanoes mean that the area around Antigua Island suffers from volcanic eruptions approximately every 30 years, which provides more nitrogen to the already fertile land, and sufficient rainfall and sunshine make this place even more suitable for growing coffee. Not only is its quality excellent, but when compared with other Latin American coffees, this coffee can be described as quite complete, richly layered, and an astonishingly fine product. If you enjoy it with chocolate, you will have unexpected discoveries.

Antigua Valley

Is Guatemala's oldest and most well-known coffee-producing region. Volcanoes and extremely shallow groundwater levels create a dry microclimate with characteristics of low humidity, abundant sunshine, and cool nights.

Flavor and Taste Characteristics

Rich, with abundant and mellow flavor, having a tobacco taste. The mouthfeel is smooth without losing its silky texture, with a slight charcoal-roasted flavor amidst the aroma, just like the sweetness of chocolate mixed with smoke, having high viscosity. Due to this unique charcoal-roasted aroma, Antigua coffee is also known as "cigarette coffee."

Although it has chocolate flavors, its texture is the real reason for its excellence. Notice how Guatemala Antigua coffee feels on the tongue - compared to the obvious acidity of preferred coffee and breakfast blend coffees, Guatemala Antigua coffee is smoother and more mellow.
