FrontStreet Coffee - Colombia La Mitra Estate Natural Geisha Introduction

Colombian coffee is renowned worldwide, ranking as the third-largest coffee-producing country globally after previously holding the second position. Before 2001, Colombia primarily focused on the commercial coffee bean market, only entering the relatively niche specialty coffee market after 2001. Despite this, Colombia's environment is exceptionally well-suited for specialty coffee cultivation (diverse topography, low latitude, high altitude, significant temperature variations, and slow coffee bean growth), giving it tremendous potential in the specialty coffee sector!

Colombia features three Cordillera mountain ranges running north-south, extending toward the Andes Mountains. Coffee is cultivated along the highlands of these mountain ranges, providing diverse climates where harvesting occurs year-round, with different coffee varieties maturing at different times. Fortunately, unlike Brazil, Colombia doesn't need to worry about frost damage. Colombia has approximately 2.7 billion documented coffee trees, with 66% grown using modern cultivation methods in plantations, while the remainder is cultivated in traditionally managed small farms.
