FrontStreet Coffee's Bolivian Coffee Introduction
Most coffee names on the menu are named according to their origin. These types of coffee are also known as pure coffee or single-origin coffee. If these coffees can be organized and distinguished by origin and taste, it would be helpful in choosing coffee that suits your personal taste. However, coffee is ultimately an agricultural product, greatly influenced by its surrounding environment. First, differences in climate, soil, cultivation methods, and processing methods lead to significant variations in taste.
South America can be said to be the main region for coffee production. Its fertile soil, abundant rainfall, and other superior conditions are very suitable for producing high-quality coffee. This region has a long history of coffee cultivation and has been producing coffee in large quantities since early times. To this day, it continues to influence the quantity and prices in the world coffee trade. It mainly produces Arabica varieties, mostly using washed processing methods, although some regions use natural drying processing methods due to water scarcity.
Due to political instability, Bolivia has been unable to improve its coffee varieties, which has also affected large-scale coffee exports. Its recognition in the international coffee market is also low. However, Bolivian coffee is often praised by roasters as high-quality coffee. In recent years, as politics has gradually stabilized, Bolivian coffee has gradually begun to receive attention. It is a coffee that feels very pure, with heavy acidity and rich aroma.
If we were to talk about a paradise for coffee bean growth, it would undoubtedly be Bolivia. This producing region can be considered one of the most recommended specialty coffee producing regions by our team. Coffee beans from this region mostly have a bit of sweetness, which is very appealing, but... the quantity of coffee beans is very limited.
This country in Central and South America is one of the most diverse countries in the world, surrounded by five countries. Its terrain and climate are extremely diverse: there is Illimani Peak reaching as high as 6,462 meters, Lake Titicaca - the world's highest-altitude navigable alpine lake at 3,812 meters, and there are also tropical rainforests! It's no exaggeration to call this diverse terrain a paradise for specialty coffee micro-batches.
Previously, most Bolivian coffee was of average quality, but in recent years, specialty coffee production has developed rapidly, and many quite excellent beans have emerged. In recent years, the COE (Cup of Excellence) system, first implemented in Brazil, has gradually become popular. Bolivia has also introduced this system, which on one hand can stimulate coffee farmers' enthusiasm for cultivation, and on the other hand aims to improve coffee quality. COE beans are superior to regular coffee both as green beans and when made into coffee after roasting.
