FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Brazilian Santos Coffee

Brazilian Santos coffee, much like the rhythmic and passionate samba dance and the electrifying, world-renowned carnival, is deeply ingrained in the blood of the cheerful and optimistic Brazilian people. Its diverse and splendid flavors captivate the hearts of coffee enthusiasts, leaving a lasting impression.

Santos Coffee

Primarily produced in São Paulo, Brazil, this coffee exhibits a balanced profile of acidity, sweetness, and bitterness. With moderate concentration and appropriate acidity, it offers an elegant and distinctive taste, making it an excellent choice for coffee blending. Hailed as the backbone of coffee, it also delivers exceptional flavor when enjoyed on its own.

The name "Santos" originates from the port city where coffee was shipped. Coffee from the valley regions surrounding the capital São Paulo represents Brazil's most characteristic coffee. As a neutral bean, Santos is celebrated for its superior quality and is considered the crown jewel of coffees. When blended with other varieties, it creates unique flavors, making it particularly suitable for those with noble tastes, a sense of humor, and exceptional interpersonal skills.

Premium Brazilian Bourbon Santos coffee can rival Blue Mountain coffee. If Blue Mountain is regarded as the king of coffee, then Brazilian Bourbon Santos coffee is the hermit of the coffee kingdom. Like all Brazilian coffees, they are best enjoyed when fresh, as they become more acidic with age. Although Brazil is known as the "Kingdom of Coffee," coffee's origin is not actually in Brazil but in the Kaffa province of Ethiopia, Africa.

The term "coffee" itself evolved from the place name "Kaffa." Coffee was introduced to Brazil only after the 18th century. In 1727, Brazil had a border dispute with its northern neighbor, French Guiana. To prevent escalation, the Brazilian governor sent officer Francisco de Melo Palheta to lead a delegation to French Guiana for negotiations, attempting to resolve the dispute peacefully. Unexpectedly, while his border negotiations failed, he accidentally became Brazil's "Father of Coffee."
