FrontStreet Coffee - Guatemala Coffee Introduction

Guatemala coffee is produced in the Republic of Guatemala, located in northwestern Central America. The country's forested area accounts for two-thirds of its total area, producing high-quality coffee beans. Its acidity is relatively strong, with a mellow and slightly wild flavor, making it suitable for both single-origin consumption and for blending into mixed coffee.

1. Guatemala Coffee Flavor

Flavor: Bitter and aromatic, with excellent texture.

High-altitude coffee is mellow and possesses fine acidity, receiving high praise as the best material for blended coffee. Guatemala's extremely hard beans are known for their elegant and lively acidity, clean and impurity-free taste, distinct layers, as well as green apple acidity, berry aroma, jasmine fragrance, orange peel scent, green pepper aroma, fruity sweet and sour sensation, chocolate sweetness, and even a smoky aftertaste.

Such rich regional flavors are related to the water and soil of Guatemala's eight major producing regions. Among them, Antigua, Acatenango Valley, Atitlán, San Marcos, and Huehuetenango belong to volcanic rock geology. Additionally, the three regions of Verapaces, Cobán, and Nueva Oriente belong to non-volcanic highlands or tropical rainforest climates. Guatemala boasts over 300 microclimates throughout its territory,堪称 the world's most.

2. Guatemala Coffee Varieties

Guatemala coffee beans are mostly cultivated in high-altitude volcanic areas with soil belonging to the highest grade Arabica variety. Due to the longer maturation period, the beans are medium-sized and dense (Guatemala coffee bean grade assessment is based on the number of defects rather than bean size). The beans are deep green in color. Its characteristics are aroma, mellowness, sweetness, and a unique refreshing acidity, because the coffee bean's aroma and texture are hidden within its acidity. Therefore, only coffee beans with these characteristics can be called premium coffee beans. The product name is suitable for baking degree and taste characteristics.

Guatemala has a high average altitude, with coffee belts distributed above 1500 meters, between 14 and 16 degrees north latitude, making it easiest to grow extremely hard beans. All are wet-processed, with 45% belonging to the specialty grade, a relatively high proportion, and there is also a small amount of Robusta.

Guatemala's coffee varieties are mainly Bourbon, Typica, Catuai, and Caturra, with also small amounts of Yellow Bourbon, Geisha, and Pacamara. The varieties are quite diverse, but being able to preserve the ancient Typica and Bourbon is also rare and valuable.
