Mandheling coffee's popularity worldwide owes much to the Japanese. During World War II, a Japanese soldier drank exceptionally fragrant and mellow coffee in a small café in Indonesia and asked the shop owner for the coffee's name. The owner misunderstood and thought he was being asked about his ethnicity, so he replied "Mandaling" (meaning the Mandailing ethnic group of Sumatra island). After the war, that Japanese soldier recalled the coffee he had drank and commissioned an Indonesian coffee merchant to ship fifteen tons to Japan, where it became immensely popular. The name Mandheling thus became famous, and the Indonesian coffee merchant who shipped the coffee was Bao Wannian Coffee Company (Pawani, abbreviated as PWN, also known as Puwangni).

In fact, Pawani was not founded by indigenous Indonesians, but by Du Deba, a Chinese overseas Chinese from Fujian.

Indonesian Sumatran Golden Mandheling has a dry aroma with flavors of sticky rice, malt, spices, caramel, and wood. The wet aroma after adding hot water reveals dark roasted caramel notes and pine flavors, with a faint earthy fragrance. The mouthfeel is intense and stimulating, with clove and woody aromatic flavors, spice and mint sensations, and a strong, persistent sweet aftertaste.

Golden Mandheling is produced in Sumatra, Indonesia, Asia, also known as "Sumatran coffee."

Among these, the "Mandheling" produced on Sumatra island is the most famous. Mandheling is a premium coffee bean grown on highland plateaus at elevations of 750~1500 meters.

Its flavor is very rich, with sweet fragrance, pure bitterness, and mellow thickness, carrying a slight sweetness and subtle acidity. After drinking, it leaves a long-lasting aftertaste and lingering notes. Most coffee enthusiasts typically drink it as a single origin, but it is also an indispensable variety for blending mixed coffees. Known as the gentleman among coffees, none other than Sumatran Mandheling deserves this title.

Mandheling has always expressed its most unique sweetness through its most distinctive bitterness, much like the bittersweetness of life. No amount of sugar can mask that bitterness, which makes one gasp when first tasting it. However, the captivating aroma it exudes makes us unable to control our crazy fascination with it. Its bitterness is like the thorns beside a flower, making one self-aware, while its fragrance is refreshing. Mandheling's bitterness won't make you irritable; instead, it will make you feel more clear-headed.

Let you calm down and savor it carefully. Mandheling coffee has a very rich flavor, fragrant, bitter, and mellow, with a slight sweetness.
