As the birthplace of coffee, Africa is a land abundant with wild coffee beans. Some of the world's finest coffees produced on the African continent truly deserve their reputation. African beans offer unique and fragrant aromas, with wild flavor profiles, often carrying hints of red wine acidity. Coffee drinkers might not know what kopi luwak is; they might not know that mocha is a port in Yemen; they might never have heard of the world's top coffee, Jamaica Blue Mountain. However, you must know one name: Ethiopia!

Coffee originated from Ethiopia in Africa, then traveled to the Middle East's Arabian region of Yemen, which is why some call it "Arabica." Later, it spread to Java Island in Indonesia, and from there to Latin America.

African coffee first grew in places like Congo and Uganda as Robusta coffee. Another variety grew in Liberia as Liberica. In 1753, Swedish botanist Carl von Linné classified coffee into three major original species: Arabica coffee (accounting for about 70% of the world's total coffee production), Robusta coffee (originally accounting for 25% of the world's total coffee production), and Liberica coffee, which is now rarely consumed.

Ethiopia: The Original Taste of Coffee

A cup of washed Yirgacheffe can bring out delicate floral aromas and sweet fruit flavors that are truly unparalleled; or sun-dried Sidamo, with its sweetness and bold character—both are the most classic top representatives of Ethiopian coffee.

Ethiopia is the birthplace of the famous Arabica coffee beans. It is said that coffee was first discovered by shepherds in Ethiopia's Kaffa region, and the name "coffee" evolved from Kaffa. Its reputation as the "hometown of coffee" is well-deserved.

Ethiopia's geographical environment is highly suitable for coffee cultivation. Currently, about 25% of Ethiopia's population depends directly or indirectly on coffee production for their livelihood. Because most local farmers still tend to coffee trees manually without using harmful pesticides and herbicides, most Ethiopian coffee produced is organic.
