FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Guatemala Coffee
Guatemala coffee is produced in the Republic of Guatemala, located in northwestern Central America. The country's mountainous area accounts for two-thirds of the national territory, producing high-quality coffee beans. Its coffee has strong acidity, mellow flavor with a hint of wildness, and can be consumed as a single-origin or used for blending comprehensive coffee.
1. Guatemala Coffee Flavor
Flavor: Bitter and aromatic, with excellent texture.
Highland-grown coffee is mellow and has high-quality acidity, receiving high praise as the best material for blended coffee.
Guatemala extremely hard beans are known for their elegant and lively acidity, clean taste without impurities, distinct layers, as well as green apple acidity, berry fragrance, jasmine floral notes, orange peel aroma, green pepper fragrance, fruit sweet and sour sensation, chocolate sweet aroma, and even a smoky aftertaste.
Guatemala Coffee Varieties
Guatemala coffee beans are mostly cultivated in high-altitude volcanic soil areas and belong to the highest-grade Arabica variety. Due to the longer maturation period, the beans are medium-sized and dense (Guatemala coffee bean grading is not based on size but on the number of defects). The beans are deep green in color. Fragrance, mellowness, sweetness, and unique refreshing acidity are their characteristics, as the aroma and taste of coffee beans are hidden in their acidity. Therefore, only coffee beans with these characteristics can be called high-quality coffee beans.
Guatemala has a high average altitude, with coffee growing areas distributed above 1500 meters, between 14 and 16 degrees north latitude, making it easiest to grow extremely hard beans. All are washed processed, with 45% belonging to the specialty grade, a relatively high proportion, and a small amount of Robusta.
Guatemala's coffee varieties are mainly Bourbon, Typica, Catuai, and Caturra, with small amounts of Yellow Bourbon, Geisha, and Pacamara. The varieties are quite diverse, but preserving the ancient Typica and Bourbon is also valuable.
