FrontStreet Coffee - Panama Elida Estate
Panama Elida Estate is located in the renowned specialty coffee region of Boquete, Panama. In this high-altitude environment, low temperatures delay the maturation of coffee cherries by about a month compared to normal ripening periods. Additionally, the fertile volcanic soil provides abundant nutrients for the coffee, and the unique microclimate brought by Baru Volcano creates ideal conditions. This is why Elida Estate consistently achieves outstanding results in various cupping competitions.
The estate's altitude is among the highest in Panama, with a total area of 65 hectares. More than half of this area is located within the Baru Volcano National Park, making it a rare ultra-high-altitude estate in Central America! Thirty hectares of the estate are planted with coffee trees, while the remaining 35 hectares consist of pristine forest. The coffee is grown at altitudes ranging from 1,670m to 1,850m, making it one of the two highest-altitude coffee estates in Panama (the other estate with similar altitude is Carmen Estate, located in Volcán Valley).
In the high-altitude environment, low temperatures delay the maturation of coffee cherries by a full month compared to normal ripening periods. The fertile volcanic loam soil also provides abundant nutrients for coffee growth, and the excellent microclimate brought by Baru Volcano greatly contributes to flavor development, enabling Elida Estate to consistently achieve excellent results in cupping competitions.
In addition to the exceptional ultra-high altitude and microclimate, estate owner Mr. Wilford has put considerable effort into harvesting and processing. To meet the highest standards, the estate's coffee can only be hand-picked when the cherries are fully ripe (Ripe on Pinton). The high maturity of the fruit naturally results in high sugar content in the mucilage, which forms the foundation for producing premium coffee flavors.
Furthermore, the "purification" process of green beans after processing is more rigorous than industry standards. For Panama Elida Estate, after processing, the green beans require more than 5 months of low-temperature resting to remove greenness, allowing for more balanced and full flavor development. (Low-temperature resting is a green bean purification concept strongly promoted by coffee master George Howell since 2006. We've found that while green beans from subtropical regions need low-temperature storage, different processing methods and altitudes will change the required resting time. For Panama Elida Estate, 5 months of low-temperature resting is optimal.)
The green顶风味 of Elida Estate presents excellent complexity with perfect balance. Complex floral notes (citrus blossom, ginger flower, fragrant orchids), bright acidity, fresh fruit tones (pear, peach, orange), sweet cocoa, sandalwood, and subtle candy notes. The structure is juicy and bright, with umami aroma. A light silky mouthfeel with vibrant flavor saturation.
