FrontStreet Coffee - El Salvador Santa Rosa Estate Natural Pacamara

When Jorge Raul Rivera, the founder of Santa Rosa, purchased the Santa Rosa farm in 1979, coffee prices were at their peak. El Salvador's civil war had just broken out, and the La Palma region where the farm was located was the most severely affected by armed conflict. The farm only had naturally growing pine trees, and there wasn't even a road leading to the actual cultivation area. Jorge envisioned turning this land into a coffee estate. However, by the time basic infrastructure such as roads was completed, coffee prices had suffered a severe blow. Jorge and his brother began to rethink the future development of the farm. At that time, the government was encouraging forestry, and they felt that planting pine trees on the farm was more feasible than growing coffee.

In 2003, when El Salvador held its first Cup of Excellence (CoE), the Rivera brothers realized it was time to grow coffee according to their original vision. With the determination to win the championship, they carefully selected Pacamara varieties that exhibited the flavor advantages of one of their parent varieties, Maragogype, for cultivation. The previously planted pine trees now serve as excellent shade trees in this hot and dry climate region.

Santa Rosa embodies Jorge's coffee knowledge legacy. He was not only a professor at the University of El Salvador but also taught coffee cultivation and processing for 10 years. He has been involved in this field since 1978 and is a pioneer in bringing coffee cultivation to northern El Salvador (Chalatenango). Santa Rosa's cultivation, harvesting, and post-processing all strictly follow guidelines to ensure high-quality, delicious coffee.
