FrontStreet Coffee - Arabica Variety Introduction
In fact, specialty coffee shops have long stopped emphasizing "Arabica" and instead focus more precisely on bean varieties, origins, harvest seasons, altitudes, processing methods, and other details.
Bean Varieties
Common varieties include Typica, Bourbon, SL28, SL34, Geisha, etc. (Each variety has its own unique characteristics)
Origins
Specific estates, cooperatives, or countries (Each origin offers different flavor characteristics)
Processing Methods
Washed, Natural, Honey, Double Natural, Enzymatic Fermentation, Special Fermentation...
Different processing methods result in different bean characteristics. Washed coffees tend to be cleaner with brighter acidity compared to natural processing, while natural processing typically results in more body and better sweetness. Some special fermentation methods can produce unique flavors, such as beans fermented in whiskey barrels that have distinct whiskey notes.
Arabica coffee beans are the berry seeds of the Arabica plant and represent one of the two major coffee bean varieties used for coffee production worldwide, with the other being Robusta. Arabica coffee beans contain less caffeine, lower acidity, and more aromatic flavors, making them considered superior coffee beans by many coffee enthusiasts. Premium Arabica coffee requires complex manual harvesting, selection, and meticulous processing processes, making the world's most expensive and excellent coffee beans all of the Arabica variety.
Arabica coffee possesses diverse and extensive potential flavor profiles. Arabica coffees produced in different regions, at different altitudes, and in different climates typically have their own characteristics, displaying distinctly different personality flavors. Unroasted Arabica coffee smells like fresh grass-like fragrance. After appropriate roasting, it displays "fruit notes" (light to medium roast) and "caramel sweetness" (dark roast).
Growing in subtropical regions, Arabica coffee trees are typically planted at altitudes of 550-1010 meters, where there are distinct rainy and dry seasons. This allows for one growing season and one harvest season each year.
Arabica coffee offers rich and delicate flavors, strong aromatic intensity, higher acidity, smooth texture, and rarely exhibits bitterness. Its excellent flavor and aroma make it the only coffee that can be consumed directly on its own.
Knowledge Point: Robusta is grown at altitudes below 800 meters. Robusta has extremely strong adaptability and strong resistance to pests and diseases.
