Blue Mountain Coffee
Blue Mountain Coffee, as the name suggests, is coffee produced in the Blue Mountains of Jamaica. The unique flavor of Blue Mountain Coffee is related to the Blue Mountains' exceptional geographical location and climate conditions. The Blue Mountains are located in the coffee belt between 25 degrees north and south latitude, with fertile new volcanic soil, fresh air, no pollution, year-round rainfall, and significant temperature differences between day and night. Most importantly, every afternoon, clouds and mist envelop the entire mountaintop, not only providing natural shade for coffee trees but also bringing abundant moisture, making the taste and aroma of Blue Mountain Coffee outstanding.
Pure Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee perfectly blends the unique sour, bitter, sweet, and mellow flavors in coffee, creating a strong and enticing elegant aroma that other coffees cannot match. Those who love Blue Mountain Coffee say: "It is a 'coffee beauty' that combines all the advantages of good coffee."
Today's Blue Mountain coffee growing area is a small place with only 6,000 hectares of cultivation area. Scarcity makes things valuable, and with an annual coffee bean production not exceeding 900 tons, it has become the world's top coffee, without exception.
Only coffee grown in the Blue Mountain area above 1,800 meters in altitude can be called Blue Mountain Coffee. Coffee beans generally grown at lower altitudes and in other regions can only be called "Jamaican High Mountain Beans" or "Jamaican Washed Beans." Compared to Jamaican Blue Mountain, their flavors are quite different. However, the cultivation area of these origins is twice that of the true Blue Mountain area, and their production accounts for 75% of the country's total. Therefore, "Jamaican Coffee" is also completely not equivalent to pure "Blue Mountain Coffee."
Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee is so famous that counterfeit Blue Mountain-style coffee appears on the market, or simply called "Blue Mountain Coffee," which are basically blends formulated by retailers themselves. So, do you think the Blue Mountain Coffee beans you bought, or the Blue Mountain Coffee that costs dozens of yuan per cup in cafes, really come from Blue Mountain Coffee? The Blue Mountain Coffee that can be drunk in China now, 99.9% of it, if you're lucky, is at most just grown near the Blue Mountain range.
Coffee Varieties
According to bean varieties, coffee is basically divided into two major categories: Arabica and Robusta. Among the two major coffee bean varieties, Arabica beans have lower caffeine content. All high-quality coffees in the world come from the Arabica variety, accounting for about 70% of the world's coffee production. Its flavor is rich, with excellent acidity and floral notes. Typica has high sweetness, pure taste, and pleasant acidity. Jamaican Blue Mountain is of the Typica bean variety.
Knowledge Point
Typica from the Big Island of Hawaii comes from Guatemala. The Big Island is located in the subtropical zone at 20 degrees north latitude, with cooler temperatures and fertile volcanic soil. Although cultivated at low altitude, there are clouds blocking the intense sunlight every afternoon, which allows coffee to grow better, thus creating clean acidic aroma and sweetness.
