When it comes to the country of Colombia, most people might feel unfamiliar. Coffee lovers may know that Colombian coffee is quite famous. Colombia is the world's largest producer of Arabica coffee beans. If counting all types of coffee, the country is the world's third-largest coffee producer. Coffee plants require high altitude and warm but not sunny weather for optimal harvests. UNESCO has designated the Colombian Coffee Cultural Landscape as a cultural heritage site.
Key Facts about Colombian Coffee:
1. Colombia is the world's largest exporter of washed coffee beans, the second-largest exporter of Arabica coffee beans, and the third-largest coffee producer and exporter.
2. Mainly produces Arabica coffee of superior quality, primarily using washed processing methods.
3. Common varieties: Bourbon, Typica, Castillo, Catimor, Caturra, Colombia.
4. The distinctive characteristics of different producing regions make this place very famous among coffee-growing countries: 95% of Colombia consists of small plantations under 5 hectares, mainly in the form of small-scale farming and family trade, relying almost entirely on manual production, which allows us to taste more diverse characteristics and differences.
Colombia still only produces Arabica coffee. Although the country experienced production declines in the early 2010s due to coffee leaf rust outbreaks, production has rebounded significantly through the development and dissemination of disease-resistant plants and active treatment and prevention.
Bean Variety: Castillo
Castillo is a coffee variety developed in 2005 by the Colombian Coffee Research Center based on enhanced plant disease resistance. It is the result of five generations of hybrid selection between Timor and Caturra. Castillo inherits Caturra's dwarf plant structure and high yield while inheriting Timor's leaf rust resistance genes.

Arabica coffee species are generally believed to originate from the Ethiopian highlands and are widely distributed in tropical regions. Through repeated mutations and breeding, they have derived into numerous varieties.
