Is Geisha Coffee an Arabica? Colombia Washed Geisha's Fresh and Elegant Flowering Tea

FrontStreet Coffee - Colombia Santuario Estate Washed Geisha
This variety was first collected from the coffee forests of Ethiopia in the 1930s. The collected seeds were sent to the Lyamungu research station in Tanzania, then in 1953, they were brought to the Tropical Agricultural Research and Education Center (CATIE) in Central America, where they were registered as T2722.
In the 1960s, its resistance to leaf rust was recognized, and this variety was distributed throughout Panama through CATIE. However, it did not gain widespread cultivation because farmers disliked its characteristic weak branches.
In 2005, when the Peterson family of Boquete, Panama entered this variety in the COP coffee competition and auction, it received high scores and broke the existing coffee auction price record, selling for over $20 per pound. Since then, Geisha has gained prominence.
There are many varieties on the market called "Geisha." Many of these varieties have different genetics from the Panamanian Geisha but are still called Geisha because many of them have similar geographical origins in Ethiopia.
