According to historical records, the Maya cultivated new varieties of food crops that made significant contributions to humanity in agricultural production, such as corn, tomatoes, pumpkins, beans, sweet potatoes, chili peppers, cocoa, vanilla, and tobacco. Among these, the cultivation of corn contributed the most to humanity. Although there are no records about coffee here, today, most coffee producers in Guatemala can be regarded as descendants of the Maya, and they themselves like to be called so.

Guatemalan coffee has a rich aroma, and even without drinking it, smelling the aroma alone is a kind of enjoyment. The main reason is that it has more geographical and climatic advantages than Costa Rica. Guatemala is located in the tropics, but due to its relatively high altitude, the climate is mild, truly belonging to a subtropical climate. Under the influence of this climate, coffee trees flower and bear fruit slower than coffee trees in other parts of the world. However, Guatemala's coffee production has relatively declined, with only 700 kilograms per hectare, while El Salvador's yield is 900 kilograms per hectare, and Costa Rica's yield is surprisingly high, reaching 1700 kilograms per hectare. Guatemala's coffee export trade is controlled by private companies, but the National Coffee Committee controls other sectors of the coffee industry.

Currently, some of Guatemala's highest quality coffee is exported to Japan, where each cup of coffee sells for $3-4. In order to revitalize its coffee industry, Guatemala has specially established a Specialty Coffee Association and provides maximum support and attention to these high-quality coffees. Compared with other varieties of coffee, connoisseurs prefer this mixed-flavor coffee with spicy notes. The strictly hard beans from this region are rare good coffees, with full, delicious, and balanced acidity. Additionally, its giant coffee beans have also made Guatemala receive significant attention.
