La Guaca Estate, which has been in operation for about thirty years, was founded by the current owner Regulo Gerard. What was originally a hillside for livestock use, with the lowest point at approximately 1,200 meters and reaching up to 2,000 meters at its highest point—began with coffee cultivation at the lowest elevation, and he divided it into five coffee farms based on altitude and slope orientation. Over the subsequent 20+ years, he sold coffee cherries to processing plants in town.
Like most coffee farmers of that time, he devoted all his energy to taking care of coffee trees and his family...
However, such income was not good and also unstable. Until 2002, when international coffee futures prices hit rock bottom, Costa Rica began the "micro-mill revolution." Many farmers hoped that their micro-batch beans would catch the discerning eye of international specialty buyers, forever breaking free from the terrible commercial coffee price cycle...
With no models to emulate and completely without international specialty buyers, the owner resolutely decided to invest tens of thousands of dollars to purchase a "Penagos" micro-honey processing equipment (and named this new micro-mill -- Rivense), placing the entire coffee business and family's future entirely on an unknown venture...

Flavor Profile: The dry aroma features plum, nut, and caramel notes. Upon entry, there are creamy nuts, fruit wine aromas, the sweet-tart sensation of red-fleshed plums, and jujube-like sweetness. The body is thick and full, with a finish reminiscent of fresh green grass.
Knowledge Point: Although coffee beans are called "beans," they are actually the seeds of the fruit of the Rubiaceae plant (coffee tree).
