FrontStreet Coffee Colombia Cauca Introduction
Located in southwestern Colombia, bordering the Pacific Ocean to the west and Valle del Cauca to the north, Tolima to the northeast, Huila to the east, and Nariño to the south, Cauca Department is one of Colombia's important specialty coffee producing regions.
Like other coffee-producing regions in southern Colombia, the dry season in this area mainly occurs from July to September each year. The subsequent rainy season brings a concentrated coffee flowering period, followed by a concentrated coffee harvest season in the following year.
The Cauca Department, named after the Cauca River, is located in southwestern Colombia. Along with the Nariño Department and Huila Department, it is one of Colombia's important specialty coffee producing regions.
Cauca is a coffee-producing region certified by Colombia's Coffee Origin Designation, with an average altitude of 1,758 meters and a maximum altitude reaching up to 2,100 meters. The region's topography, precipitation, temperature, and volcanic soil provide ideal conditions for coffee cultivation.
The Cauca producing region is surrounded by high mountains. The majestic mountains block air currents and moisture from the Pacific Ocean, as well as trade winds from the south, thus maintaining a stable climate in the producing region. Located near the equator, it enjoys abundant sunshine. The stable climate and sufficient sunlight guarantee consistent coffee quality.

The biggest difference in climate between Cauca and other producing regions is probably the relatively large temperature difference. The daily average temperature is 11°C, with daytime averages of 18°C and nighttime averages of 4°C. The day-night temperature difference is an important factor in producing high-quality coffee. The low nighttime temperatures and relatively higher altitude slow down the growth rhythm of coffee, allowing coffee seeds and beans to more fully absorb nutrients from coffee cherries. This also contributes to Cauca coffee's better acidity and its renowned special sweetness.
