Today, the best coffee is no longer Kopi Luwak or Blue Mountain; Geisha is the undisputed new king in the coffee kingdom. In 1931, Geisha was quietly exported from Geisha Mountain in southwestern Ethiopia to Kenya, then traveled through Tanzania and Costa Rica, before being transplanted to Panama in the 1960s. After nearly half a century of obscurity, it suddenly rose to prominence, defeating perennial champions like Bourbon, Caturra, Catuai, and Typica varieties, sweeping first place in the Panama National Coffee Cupping Competition in 2005, 2006, and 2007. In 2007, Geisha won the International Coffee Tasting Championship hosted by the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA), with a winning bid of $130 per pound, setting the highest price record for competition beans in history.

It is reported that subsequent Panama National Coffee Competitions would be divided into Geisha and non-Geisha categories to prevent Geisha from stealing the spotlight from other varieties. Geisha belongs to the Typica family but made its name more than seventy years after leaving Ethiopia, confirming the notion that Ethiopia is the genetic treasure trove of Arabica coffee. Even a casually shared variety from Ethiopia is enough to make waves in the coffee market. Geisha is cultivated in many regions worldwide, with Panama's quality being the highest and prices the most expensive.

Geisha is grown in many regions worldwide and is the new king of specialty coffee, with higher quality and prices in Latin American countries such as Panama, Guatemala, and Colombia. Geisha green coffee beans possess a beautiful blue-green color with a jade-like smooth texture. They smell of fresh grass, peaches, berries, and have a unique milk-sweet aroma characteristic of oolong tea that most coffee beans lack.

The roasted beans appear somewhat "wrinkled." Beans with these "sexy wrinkles" are intended to highlight their original flavor and fruit acidity. However, if the quality of the green beans is not high, they may develop undesirable flavors such as rotten earthy notes, grassy tastes, and astringent flavors.
