Colombia is the second largest coffee producing country after Brazil, the world's largest exporter of Arabica coffee beans, and the world's largest exporter of washed coffee beans. Among all coffees, it has the best balance, with a mellow, soft, and smooth mouthfeel.

Colombia's National Coffee Growers Federation, like Kenya's national management association, serves as a model for coffee organizations. Compared to other producing countries, Colombia is more concerned with product development and production promotion. This, combined with its superior geographical and climatic conditions, makes Colombian coffee high-quality and delicious, renowned worldwide. The status of coffee in Colombia can be seen from the following example—all vehicles entering the country must be sprayed and disinfected to avoid inadvertently bringing diseases that could harm coffee trees.

Cultivation Information

Cultivation Altitude: 1000 - 2500 meters

Cultivation Varieties: In addition to common varieties in the Americas such as Caturra, Bourbon, Typica, and Pacamara, Colombia also has three unique disease-resistant varieties: Castillo, Tabi, and the Colombia variety (named after the country). Of course, there are also some rare and precious varieties like Gesha, small-grained Mocca, Rume Sudan, Eugenioides, Laurina (Pointed Bourbon), and Maragesa (a natural hybrid of Maragogipe and Gesha).

Most Colombian coffee is processed using the washed method. Each small farmer family has a small specialized processor (Ecomill or Eco-Pulper). Harvested coffee cherries are poured into it, which not only removes the skin and pulp but also removes most of the mucilage, requiring only a very small amount of water. Next, the parchment beans with residual mucilage enter a small pool or container for overnight fermentation to loosen the remaining mucilage. The next day, they are rinsed with clean water, completing the washed processing method.

Coffee, flowers, emeralds, and gold are known as Colombia's "four treasures," accounting for one-third of the national economy, representing Colombia's efforts and dedication to becoming a world-renowned specialty coffee producing country.
