When beginners learning pour-over coffee are struggling to choose a coffee filter, they often hear this sentence: "Choose the Smart Brewer! It's easy to get started and doesn't require much attention, allowing you to simply brew a delicious cup of pour-over coffee." Although it sounds very convenient, before choosing a coffee filter, you need to clearly understand your own needs.
Pros and Cons of Coffee Smart Brewer
The advantage of the Coffee Smart Brewer lies in its immersion extraction function, which can more fully extract the aromatic substances from coffee. At the same time, like other coffee filters, through the filtration of filter paper and the backflow of ribs, it allows water to flow more evenly through the coffee grounds, filtering out clean coffee liquid. If you just want to drink coffee with stable quality and full-bodied flavor, you can choose the Coffee Smart Brewer.
The disadvantage is that the Coffee Smart Brewer doesn't require much attention to pouring technique. At the same time, the extracted coffee substances from immersion will be more complete, resulting in a full-bodied flavor but relatively less complex layers. If you want to practice various pour-over coffee techniques and enjoy coffee with richer complexity, FrontStreet Coffee recommends choosing a conical coffee filter.
How to Use the Coffee Smart Brewer?
The Smart Brewer is a very convenient coffee brewing device that can complete the process of steeping coffee and filtering, saving many operation steps. The key design of the Smart Brewer lies in the piston valve at the bottom. After hot water is poured into the filter, water pressure will automatically seal the piston valve to stop water flow, allowing coffee grounds to fully steep in it. After completing the steeping, place the filter on a mug, the bottom receives pressure to open the piston valve, and coffee will slowly flow into the cup.
It's very simple to brew a delicious cup of coffee with the Coffee Smart Brewer. You just need to prepare freshly roasted coffee beans, then use appropriate grind size, water temperature, and coffee-to-water ratio.
Currently, all coffee beans sold by FrontStreet Coffee are shipped within 5 days after roasting, and the optimal tasting period is within 5-35 days after the roasting date printed on the back of the coffee bean packaging. For light to medium roasted coffee beans, FrontStreet Coffee recommends using medium-fine grind/sugar-sized particles, brewed with 90-91°C water; for medium-dark to dark roasted coffee beans, FrontStreet Coffee recommends using medium-coarse grind/coarse sugar-sized particles, brewed with 88-89°C water.
Usage Steps:
① After folding the bottom and side ribs of the filter paper, place it in the Smart Brewer. Add water to wet the filter paper and make it fit against the inner wall of the Smart Brewer.
② Place the Smart Brewer on a flat surface to close the piston valve, pour 15g of coffee grounds into the Smart Brewer and shake it level.
③ Press the timer, pour the first 30g of hot water, bloom for 30 seconds, with water temperature at 90°C. After blooming, continue pouring hot water to 225g.
④ Wait until 1 minute and 30 seconds, place the Smart Brewer on a mug or sharing pot to open the piston valve and let the coffee liquid flow out. The total extraction time should be around 1 minute and 50 seconds to 1 minute and 55 seconds.
