FrontStreet Coffee - Mandheling and Espresso Coffee Comparison
Mandheling comes from Indonesia, and its main producing region, Sumatra Island, has become more well-known due to the fame of Mandheling. Sumatra has numerous coffee varieties, but not all Arabica coffee is named Mandheling. However, Mandheling is undoubtedly the most prominent star among them.
The road to Mandheling's fame is quite legendary, thanks to the Dutch and Japanese. The Dutch acted as transporters, while the Japanese played the role of promoters. War and colonization formed the main thread of this story.
This is a painful period of history to recall, as Sumatra was successively occupied by the British, Dutch, and Japanese. The Dutch brought coffee to Indonesia. For the convenience of export and due to climate reasons, coffee continued to spread and migrate throughout Indonesia, eventually reaching Sumatra.
Mandheling has a unique flavor - rich, mellow, and bitter with aromatic qualities, much like a passionate young woman! Especially carefully selected and processed Mandheling has successfully captured the taste buds of numerous coffee enthusiasts! Whether in the realm of pour-over coffee or used for making espresso blends, Mandheling occupies an important position.
Espresso is the concentrated coffee made by steam pressure espresso machines. Steam pressure extraction machines were invented by Italians. Using espresso as a base, combined with milk, milk foam, chocolate, ice cream, and various other combinations, all these fancy or creative coffees are called espresso coffee. The core keywords are espresso machine and espresso. All coffees in this system are called espresso coffee. Therefore, espresso coffee is a system - a system based on concentrated coffee quickly extracted by steam pressure coffee machines.
Single-origin coffee beans and single-variety coffee beans. Most single-origin coffees come from single regions (origins) because generally the same estate often grows various varieties mixed together, making them difficult to distinguish, especially in Africa. Single-variety is something only high-end estates can achieve, and the price is correspondingly higher. Therefore, single-origin more often refers to single-region coffee. Mandheling belongs to single-origin coffee beans, of course it can also be mixed with other varieties to create blends, but as for which tastes better, it depends on personal preference.
Knowledge point: Sumatra coffee has long been known as the "Two Lakes, Double Mandheling."
