FrontStreet Coffee - Pour-Over Coffee Brewing Guide

First, prepare a set of tools. For beginners, it's fine to start with some cost-effective options. As you develop more demanding preferences for flavor, you can gradually acquire other better tools.

Required Equipment:

1. Filter paper

2. Filter cone

3. Server carafe

4. Coffee beans

5. Manual coffee grinder

6. Pour-over coffee kettle

Brewing Steps:

Step 1: Heat water (after boiling, let it rest for 1 minute to achieve approximately 90°C water). Fold the filter paper (this is Hario V60 filter paper) - fold the side with the textured pattern inward, then open and place the filter paper in the filter cone.

Step 2: Weigh 15g of coffee beans. The plan is to brew 225ml of water with 15g of coffee powder (1:18 water-to-coffee ratio).

Step 3: Pour water in circles from the center outward to wet the filter paper, allowing it to conform to the filter cone (if using unbleached, natural-colored filter paper, rinse for a longer time to remove the paper pulp taste).

Step 4: Grind the coffee beans (always wait until all previous preparation steps are completed before grinding to reduce loss of aroma and flavor). Grind to a consistency slightly finer than sugar granules.

Step 5: Bloom. Pour water in circles from the center outward until the coffee grounds are thoroughly wet. Wait for about 30 seconds for blooming...

Step 6: After blooming, continue pouring water in circles from the center outward, then from the surrounding area back to the center, repeating this pattern. Continue until the desired amount of water has been added (the plan is to add water to 270ml; if you don't have a scale, you can use the measurement markings). The total brewing time is 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

Step 7: Remove the filter cone and gently shake the server carafe to evenly mix the coffee from the beginning and end of the brewing process (the remaining coffee grounds in the filter paper can be dried later and used for odor removal).

Key Knowledge Point:

Unlike the French press, siphon, and espresso coffee methods we're familiar with, pour-over coffee excels in terms of ease of preparation and cleaning.
