FrontStreet Coffee - Colombia El Paraiso Plum Introduction
Colombia is currently the third-largest coffee-producing country after Brazil and Vietnam, but it is also the largest producer of Arabica coffee (100% of Colombian coffee is Arabica). Although coffee production was traditionally dominated by large estates, the sharp decline in international coffee prices that began in the early 1990s witnessed the rise of small-scale producers.
Colombian coffee boasts extremely rich diversity—primarily influenced by the country's diverse soil, topography, climate, varieties, and increasingly diverse processing techniques. The Cauca Valley region has some of the most fertile soils in Colombia, with coffee harvesting periods from September to December (main season) and March to June (secondary season).
Introduction to Finca El Paraiso
Farm owner Diego Samuel loves visiting friends' coffee estates, and through this immersion, he developed the dream of growing specialty coffee. After long-term observation and learning, one day in 2008, farm owner Diego Samuel established his estate Finca El Paraiso, primarily growing varieties such as Bourbon, Gesha, and Castillo. What started as a small 2.5-hectare family estate, the owner invested all annual coffee profits into improving cultivation quality and learning business management.
In 2015, he participated in a regional Colombian competition for the first time and won first place! It was precisely this harvest from his diligent efforts that gained better recognition for his coffee, which also gave him the motivation to continue growing high-quality coffee. In the 2018 Cup of Excellence competition, he achieved an impressive tenth place with an anaerobic processed Bourbon, which later became the highest-priced "top bid" in the subsequent auction!
This Plum variety exhibits very distinctive characteristics! It has very clear strawberry notes, reminiscent of the perfumed strawberries given by Sister Xia last year. It somewhat resembles the "Red Treasure" strawberries now available at Baiguoyuan, but with more floral notes and a more vibrant sweet-tart balance.
The aroma of the Plum combines with a yogurt-like sweet-tart sensation. The overall experience is fragrant and sweet.
Even with this description, I feel I haven't fully captured the essence of this bean. Its richness is even greater, with clean and clear flavors—so delicious it's beyond description! Absolutely not to be missed! This is a stunning level of coffee bean.
