Region Introduction
Nensebo is a small region within Oromia, Ethiopia. The valley area accounts for 70%, while the remaining areas consist of dry land and plateaus. Natural drinking water comprises only 4.6%. Coffee is an important commercial crop, with a cultivation area exceeding 5,000 hectares. The annual total production is approximately ten containers, with five containers of washed coffee and five containers of natural process coffee. Typically, a batch is processed from about 150 bags of parchment coffee, equivalent to 100 bags of green coffee beans. About 800 small farmers deliver small quantities of coffee cherries to the processing plant (Gora Kone Washing Station) daily. Each coffee farmer usually owns less than one hectare of farmland, and most coffee is grown organically, primarily using organic compost. A single coffee tree produces no more than 200 grams of green coffee beans, and farmers typically have fewer than 1,500 coffee trees per hectare.
