Best Coffee Bean Recommendations: Costa Rica's Finest Honey Process Coffee
FrontStreet Coffee - Costa Rican Coffee Recommendations
Costa Rica enjoys a mild climate with abundant rainfall in mountainous regions, combined with fertile volcanic soil that creates the perfect environment for coffee cultivation. Beyond these superior growing conditions, the Costa Rican government demonstrated remarkable foresight in the early 19th century by actively developing the coffee cultivation industry. To this day, Costa Rican coffee has surpassed cocoa, tobacco, and sugar to become an important cash crop and primary source of national revenue.
In 1989, Costa Rica enacted legislation prohibiting the cultivation of Robusta varieties domestically, subsequently imposing restrictions and bans on Catimor varieties as well, due to their Robusta genetic heritage. (Editor's note: For coffee growers, few threats are more concerning than interspecific genetic contamination between different varieties—such as Robusta and Arabica. Although Arabica coffee is self-pollinating, bees still visit the flowers during blooming periods, potentially facilitating cross-pollination.)
