FrontStreet Coffee - Guatemala Antigua Region Introduction

Notable Representative Coffees: Antigua, Huehuetenango

Guatemala is located at approximately 15 degrees latitude, bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Caribbean Sea to the east. The Sierra Mountains on the Pacific side are the main coffee-growing region of Guatemala. Because the mountain range extends for a considerable distance and regional climate variations are significant, this has created seven major coffee-producing regions in Guatemala, each with different flavors and characteristics. Among them, coffee from the Antigua region is renowned worldwide for its characteristics of slight acidity, rich aroma and mellow sweetness, with a hint of volcanic carbonized flavor. Guatemala's coffee belongs to the Arabica species and is processed using the washed method. In the distant northwestern region lies the Huehuetenango highlands, which, due to elevations above 5,000 feet, produce coffee with the characteristics of high-altitude coffee - hard texture, stronger acidity, and rich flavor. This is also one of Guatemala's most distinctive coffees.

Antigua Island is a famous coffee-producing region, characterized by rich volcanic soil, low humidity, intense sunlight, and cool evening breezes. Three spectacular active volcanoes—Agua, Acatenango, and Fuego—form a beautiful valley landscape. The active Fuego volcano occasionally adds mysterious dust to the area. Approximately every 30 years, the Antigua Island area suffers from volcanic eruptions, which provide more nitrogen to the already fertile soil, and adequate rainfall and sunshine make this place even more suitable for coffee cultivation.

Coffee from Antigua Island is produced at the Camona estate, where the best quality coffee is ELPulcal. Not only is it of excellent quality, but when compared with other Latin American coffees, this coffee can be described as remarkably complete and complex, a stunningly excellent variety. If enjoyed with chocolate, you will make unexpected discoveries. Most importantly, its flavor is very rich, with an even more complex palate, and it possesses a fascinating tobacco flavor that has been acclaimed as "the most perfect coffee bean."
