FrontStreet Coffee - Starbucks Guatemala Atitlan, Classification System Introduction
Starbucks Guatemala Atitlan coffee beans are indeed the first single-origin coffee beans launched by Starbucks. This particular bean is quite special, with a light roast profile.
Lake Atitlan is located in the highlands of Guatemala's Sierra Madre mountain range, where coffee beans grow on the slopes of local volcanoes. Every afternoon, warm air from the south meets cold mountain air, creating waves that gently ripple across Lake Atitlan's surface. These meeting of warm and cold air currents, combined with the intense equatorial sun and high altitude, create superior growing conditions for these beans.
This light roast bean is officially recommended for elegant pour-over brewing. The first time I brewed it at home, I achieved a "self-satisfying" comfort. This light roast bean is easy to brew at home and suitable for beginners, with a bright orange blossom-like fragrance that fills the air.
Officially described as having bright orange blossom aroma, accompanied by caramel and milk chocolate flavors. My most direct experience was a smoky cinnamon orange flavor. Even friends who don't typically enjoy acidic coffee can absolutely fall in love with this bean. There's a slight smoky sensation that enhances the entire coffee drinking experience.
Guatemala Coffee Classification System
Guatemala's coffee classification is also based on altitude as the standard:
SHB (Strictly Hard Bean): Grown at altitudes between 1500-1700 meters;
HB (Hard Bean): Grown at altitudes between 1350-1500 meters;
SH (Semi Hard Bean): Grown at altitudes between 1200-1350 meters;
Extra Prime: Grown at altitudes between 1000-1200 meters;
Prime: Grown at altitudes between 850-1000 meters;
Good Washed: Grown at altitudes between 700-850 meters.
Knowledge Point
Most coffee producers in Guatemala can be considered descendants of the Maya people, and they themselves prefer to be called as such.
