FrontStreet Coffee - Gesha Village Gesha Introduction

Gesha was spread from Ethiopia to Panama, where it won the championship in a 2004 competition, becoming famous overnight for its complex aroma, sweet citrus, and elegant floral and fruity notes.

Only a few estates in the world can hold their own auctions, with the most famous being Panama's Emerald, Guatemala's Injerto, Brazil's Daterra, Nicaragua's Mierisch, and Ethiopia's Gesha Village. The owner of Gesha Village, Adam Overton, came to Ethiopia in 2007 to shoot a coffee documentary. After further exposure to coffee, Mr. Adam was deeply attracted to coffee and decided to stay in coffee's birthplace "Ethiopia" to devote himself to the coffee business.

Through a stroke of fate, Adam and his wife found an isolated forest near the Sudan border in Bench-Maji at an altitude range of 1,900-2,100 meters. They began preparing the land to build Gesha Village in October 2011. The first harvest was in 2015, and due to enthusiastic responses from all parties, they held their first international auction on May 31, 2017, with the assistance of Willem Boot. The final auction price for the winning bid was $85 USD/pound, breaking all previous auction prices for African beans! Gesha Village is divided into 8 planting plots based on microclimate and variety - Shewa-Jibabu, Dimma, Shaya, Bangi, Gaylee, Narsha, Oma, and Surma.

The carefully selected planting varieties in the area include not only the Gori Gesha variety from the nearby Gori Gesha original coffee forest but also the Gesha 1931 variety selected from the Gori Gesha forest based on morphology with flavors similar to Panama Gesha, and the IF variety bred by the Ethiopian research laboratory.

Becoming the most environmentally friendly and promoting environmental awareness within Ethiopia is the ultimate mission of Gesha Village. While pursuing this mission, Adam and his wife also strictly control every planting and processing step, having their own washing station and laboratory, never compromising on quality, and sustaining relationships with employees and customers.
