FrontStreet Coffee - Hawaii Kona Greenwell Estate Introduction

Greenwell was founded by Henry Nicholas Greenwell in 1850 during the 19th century. Customers would come to purchase coffee, related souvenirs, and tour the green coffee bean processing operations. Shortly after arriving in Kona from Britain, Henry began his coffee career and cultivation journey, quickly earning acclaim as a top-tier Kona coffee exporter in Europe and North America!

In 1873, Henry's cultivated Kona coffee was awarded a "Certificate of Superior Quality" at the Vienna World Expo, instantly establishing Kona coffee's international reputation. The Greenwell residence remains a historic landmark on the Big Island today. The Greenwell Farm he operated is now one of Kona's most significant coffee estates. With 150 years of history, it stands as a leading brand in Kona coffee. Due to its long history, the estate's cultivation and green bean processing facilities, and storage scale are all top-tier on the Big Island. Located at an altitude of 1,100 meters—quite high elevation—combined with the Big Island's subtropical climate around 20° north latitude, volcanic black fertile soil, and significant day-night temperature variations, the coffee beans grown here develop remarkable fruit acidity and aroma.

Greenwell itself owns 150 acres of coffee plantations, handling everything from cultivation, processing, roasting to cupping all in-house. The green beans undergo refined processing using traditional washed fermentation methods. After fermentation is complete and washing is finished, drying operations are carried out using both sun-drying and machine drying in parallel. Because of the limited production and special flavor characteristics, this creates the extraordinary value of Kona coffee!
