FrontStreet Coffee - Yirgacheffe Region Introduction

When first starting to drink pour-over single-origin coffee, my understanding of flavor concepts was vague. I could only detect bitterness and concentration, and whether it was aromatic. I considered coffee good if it felt smooth without any harsh astringency. Until one day someone said: "You need to try to filter out the bitterness."

Some people say that the flavor expression of Yirgacheffe is not subtle enough, but I particularly appreciate this straightforward and frank character. The delicate, slightly sweet jasmine fragrance is soft and light, reminiscent of citrus and lemon juice. Behind the subtle bitterness lies a mysterious garden...

Floral notes, juice-like qualities? The concept of tonality was something that Yirgacheffe enlightened me about!

Yirgacheffe Washed Processing Method Grading: Grade 1, Grade 2

Yirgacheffe processed by the washed method has a clean mouthfeel, like sipping a cup of floral and fruit tea. Some friends like to call it "clear stream."

Yirgacheffe Natural Processing Method Grading: Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 5

Yirgacheffe produced by the natural method has some honey aroma, with a richer, fuller flavor. It's appealing whether prepared as pour-over or cold brew.

Located in the northwestern part of Sidamo Province, Ethiopia (at an altitude of 1700-2100m), unlike the impression of the wild African savanna, the town of "Yirgacheffe" itself has a full forest and pastoral feeling. The climate is spring-like throughout the four seasons, neither dry nor hot, and the coffee flavors produced are naturally fresh and refined.

Yirgacheffe coffee beans use washed or natural processing methods to enhance their charming fruit aroma and body. These mountain villages are shrouded in mist, with spring-like weather throughout the year. Summer brings gentle breezes, cool but not hot, rainy but not humid, and winter doesn't bring frost damage. This cultivates a unique "regional flavor" of citrus and floral notes. Coffee trees are mostly planted in farmers' own backyards or mixed with other crops on farmland. Each household's production is not large, making it typical pastoral coffee. Almost all award-winning Yirgacheffe beans come from the aforementioned coffee villages and communities. It is an indispensable choice for specialty coffee.

Yirgacheffe is a coffee that I have always recommended to every first-time customer who visits our shop to drink single-origin coffee! The reason is simple because it has very unique floral and fruity aromas. If you have the opportunity to visit our coffee shop, remember to order Yirgacheffe at least once. I believe you will fall in love with this coffee too!

Yirgacheffe is graded based on the number of defective beans, which is why Yirgacheffe coffee bean prices vary. Good quality Yirgacheffe coffee beans have excellent quality and wonderful flavor, making them the first choice for friends who love acidity and floral-fruity aromas. At FrontStreet Coffee, a cup of Yirgacheffe costs only 30 yuan, while beans range from 75-90 yuan. The prices of coffee beans are transparent and can be found online. For the highest quality Yirgacheffe green beans, a pound costs over a hundred yuan.

Knowledge Expansion

Yirgacheffe is a sub-region of the Sidamo region in Ethiopia. Due to its special flavor, it has been separated independently. In addition to the town of Yirgacheffe, it also includes three surrounding sub-regions: Wenago, Kochere, and Gelena/Abaya.
