FrontStreet Coffee - Pour-over Coffee Bean Brand Recommendation: Introduction to Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee

Jamaica is the only country in the world with a government coffee management agency—the Jamaica Coffee Industry Board (abbreviated as CIB), which aims to regulate the Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee industry and quality.

According to CIB regulations, only Blue Mountain coffee grown in these regions of Jamaica (Saint Andrew, Saint Thomas, Portland and Saint Mary) at altitudes between 900m-1700m can be called Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee. Additionally, with the small estates that have been growing Blue Mountain coffee for generations, the planting area is approximately 6,000 hectares, which is extremely limited.

Other Blue Mountain Altitudes:

Between 450m-900m (3000-5500 feet) is called Jamaica High Mountain Coffee;

Below 450m altitude (below 3000 feet) is called Jamaica Supreme or Jamaica Low Mountain Coffee.

Grade Classification:

Blue Mountain coffee is classified by bean size as No.1 (17 mesh), No.2 (16 mesh), and No.3 (15 mesh). Additionally, there is Blue Mountain Peaberry. Typically, one coffee cherry contains two seeds, but peaberry is different—one fruit contains only one seed, so its shape is rounder.

FrontStreet Coffee recommends well-known Blue Mountain coffee brands such as Blue Mountain No.1. Coffee brands produced by Silver Hill Estate are all of good quality and produce genuine Blue Mountain coffee. They offer balanced flavor and rich mouthfeel. The price of pour-over coffee beans generally depends on the country of origin and bean quality, as many countries have grading systems. FrontStreet Coffee's Ethiopian Yirgacheffe is priced at 75-98, while Blue Mountain coffee is priced at 158. Therefore, when selecting coffee, you should choose based on your preferred flavor rather than price.

Knowledge Expansion:

In the Blue Mountains, the legal production area for Blue Mountain coffee is the area above 2,200 feet. Wallenford only selects Blue Mountain coffee fruits grown at altitudes above 4,000 feet for processing.
