FrontStreet Coffee - Sidamo Lion King Introduction

Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee, and Sidamo is one of its most important coffee-exporting provinces. Because of its distinct topography, soil composition, and local microclimates, beans grown in different towns within the province show subtle differences in flavor. Washed Sidamo is a classic specialty coffee, loved for its clear taste, lime-like acidity, and excellent balance.

Sidamo's flavors are remarkably varied: different soil types, microclimates, and countless native varieties give the coffee of each town its own identity. Between 2010 and 2012 the region earned three consecutive high ratings of 92-94 points from the authoritative American review site Coffee Review, clear evidence of the exceptional value of green beans from here. The area combines towering mountains, highlands, plateaus, valleys, and plains into diverse terrain, and its geology is nutrient-rich, well-drained volcanic soil nearly two meters deep, with a dark brown or brown topsoil. Its greatest advantage is that fertility is maintained through natural organic-matter cycling, with fallen leaves, plant debris, and residues from surrounding trees acting as natural fertilizer.

This batch was produced by the Shilsha Cooperative near Dilla town. Founded in 1976, the cooperative is today a member of the Sidama Coffee Farmer Cooperative Union (SCFCU). We further screened the coffee to select this particular lot, which performs exceptionally well in the cup.

For an even more layered profile, the FrontStreet Ethiopia Huakui, a natural-processed coffee from Hambella in Guji, adds a distinct fermented wine-like aroma with florals, citrus, and mango on top of honeyed sweetness and a full, lingering body.
