Introduction to FrontStreet Coffee's Panama Elida Geisha
Panama's Elida Estate is located in the renowned specialty coffee growing region of Boquete, Panama. In this high-altitude environment, low temperatures cause a delay in the maturation period of coffee cherries - approximately one month later than the normal maturation period. Additionally, the fertile volcanic soil provides abundant nutrients for the coffee, and together with the unique microclimate brought by the Baru volcano, this allows Elida Estate to consistently achieve excellent results in various cupping competitions.
Elida Estate is also a historic coffee estate founded in 1918. In the past, I have tasted Elida Estate's Geisha many times. Although the quality levels vary, what impresses me most about this estate is the particularly rich acidity and aroma, with strong fruity complexity flavors. Elida's natural processed beans are especially famous. Green Top Coffee belongs to the highest grade of green beans among Geisha varieties. The flavor description presents excellent layered notes with perfect balance. Complex floral notes (citrus blossom, ginger flower, fragrant orchid), bright acidity, fresh fruit notes (pear, peach, orange), sweet cocoa, sandalwood, and subtle candy. The structure is juicy and bright, with an appetizing aroma. Light silky mouthfeel with vibrant flavor saturation.
Elida Estate primarily grows three varieties: Catuai, Typica, and Geisha. Due to its high-altitude location, perennial low temperatures delay the maturation of coffee cherries. However, being near a volcano, the volcanic soil provides rich nutrients for coffee cultivation, enabling this estate's coffee beans to consistently achieve excellent results in competitions.
In addition to being extremely strict about coffee cultivation and processing, the estate owner Mr. Wilford is also more rigorous than industry peers in the "purification" process after green bean processing. Taking FrontStreet Coffee's Panama Elida coffee beans as an example, after green bean processing is completed, they need to undergo more than 5 months of low-temperature resting to remove green notes. This allows the coffee's flavor to develop in a more balanced and full manner.
Knowledge Extension
Elida Estate is located in the Boquete region, with the estate's altitude being almost the highest in all of Panama. Moreover, nearly half of its area is within the national protected park, making it a rare ultra-high-altitude estate in Central America!
