Located in Yirgacheffe, Gedeo Zone, Idido, the small farmer Tilahun Dulo processes coffee cherries with 11 family members and 65 employees, exporting approximately 17,800 kg of coffee annually. This region has fertile red-brown soil, and harvesting takes place from October to December. During harvesting, only fully ripe red cherries are picked. After removing lower density coffee cherries in water tanks, they are placed on African beds for natural drying, being turned regularly. The coffee cherries are covered at night during the drying process until completely dry.
The Dulo family currently faces challenges in coffee production, including price fluctuations and lower market demand. They hope to enhance market competitiveness by expanding the coffee farm and improving farm management.
Knowledge Extension: Washed coffee processing requires more resources (water) than natural processing, therefore the produced washed green coffee beans have higher quality.
