The Best Ethiopian Coffee Brand - Aricha Natural Yirgacheffe
FrontStreet Coffee Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Natural Process Aricha Introduction
Aricha is named after the Aricha kebele in Ethiopia's Yirgacheffe region. There is a village called Aricha kebele located not far to the east of Yirgacheffe town, approximately 8 kilometers from the town center. Kebele is the smallest administrative unit in Ethiopia, typically consisting of about 500 households (equivalent to 3,500-4,000 people), similar in size to a community.
The coffee in this region mostly comes from wild varieties in the local native forests, as well as naturally cultivated varieties by indigenous peoples. Therefore, the coffee tree varieties in this area are extremely diverse, with a single batch often containing as many as 20-30 different varieties. Since the coffee is harvested from native forests at altitudes above 1,850 meters, it cannot be named after a specific estate, so it is named after the harvesting region, Aricha.
The farm owner SHEBRO DUKALE's farm is situated in the Kebele village, featuring a 100-hectare coffee plantation at an altitude of 1,850-2,000 meters. This region not only boasts the legendary status of native Arabica varieties but also enjoys unique natural advantages. The soil consists of reddish-brown clay, and in this natural growing environment, coffee cherries thrive in the lush forest.
During the farm's natural process, coffee cherries are carefully selected and placed on drying beds in the sun, turning from red to deep brown over two weeks. After the storage period, the raw coffee beans are removed while simultaneously eliminating all dried fruit skin, pulp, and parchment layers. The advantage of this natural process is that it completely prevents off-flavors from contact with soil, while also improving the efficiency of cherry drying and more fully presenting the coffee's original fruit flavors. This work enhances the overall cupping quality and post-roasting consistency.
After two weeks of drying treatment, this batch of FrontStreet Coffee's Aricha coffee beans are dried to a deep brown color with their fruit skins intact and then stored to allow the flavors to mature. Only after the coffee flavors have matured and before shipment are the dried pulp and parchment layers removed together. Next, underripe, overripe, and fermented beans are sorted out. This pre-shipment preparation is precisely why Aricha achieves Grade 1 status.
