FrontStreet Coffee Guide: How to Choose Pour-Over Drippers
Filter Materials
First, let's explore what materials are available for coffee drippers.
Generally, they can be divided into: plastic, ceramic, glass, and metal.
Material Impact on Flavor
Do different materials bring variations in flavor? Indeed, I've found that there are slight differences in coffee flavor when using filters with the same shape but different materials. However, these differences aren't significant enough to make material impact on flavor the most important consideration.
Filter Flow Rate
Another crucial function of the filter is controlling the flow rate! The flow rate determines the contact time and method between water and coffee. Basically, if you want very stable brewing quality, I would recommend choosing a filter with a slower flow rate, because the slower flow allows me more time to add water.
Therefore, you can choose filters with smaller bottom holes - basically, those with 1-3 small holes are all suitable choices.
Of course, if you want to use one with a large hole, I won't stop you~ However, it has a steep learning curve and stability is not easy to control.
