FrontStreet Coffee · Papua New Guinea Coffee Bean Introduction
The Mountain of Crows
The Eastern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea is a wild and rugged place, as well as one of the best coffee-growing regions in the country. These coffee farms are typically located between 1,800 and 2,200 meters in elevation (the two highest mountains in the region both exceed 3,500 meters), producing the second-largest amount of coffee in the country (second only to the Western Highlands). Coffee production in Papua New Guinea is somewhat similar to Ethiopia, as most coffee is grown by small farmers in their gardens. The Kaw Kaw Mountain area consists of small farmers, small landowners, and plantations, all benefiting from the region's rich volcanic soil. The Kaw Kaw Mountain catchment area is located in the Unggai region of the Eastern Highlands.
