Specialty Coffee Introduction | Kenya Nyeri Masai Aberdare Mountains Washed AA with Dark Plum and Blackcurrant Flavors
FrontStreet Coffee - Kenya Nyeri Aberdare Washed AA Introduction
Nyeri is Kenya's most famous coffee-producing region, located in the central-western part of Kenya and surrounded by Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Range. From the Laikipia plains, one can gaze upon the majestic snow-capped mountains. Situated amidst surrounding mountains, the eastern end of the Great Rift Valley extends through this area, with meltwater from the snow-capped peaks providing pure, cool water sources. These excellent natural conditions not only offer habitat for numerous wildlife species but also nurture the unique flavor profile of Kenyan coffee. Nyeri is also a distribution hub for Kenya's coffee, tea, sisal, grains, and livestock products.
The city of Nyeri was first established by the British in 1907 during the early colonial period. Throughout its history, Nyeri has seen its share of struggles, but today, it retains magnificent scenery and tranquility, with several national parks, game reserves, and wildlife conservation areas located within its boundaries. Agriculture is an important economic industry in this region, where the thick, red volcanic soil is particularly suitable for growing tea and coffee. Two well-known varieties, SL28 and SL34, especially highlight their advantages in this terroir - the full, juicy sweetness and acidity, blackcurrant acidity, and dark plum aftertaste, along with a smooth texture like brown sugar water, all create a very classic "Kenya impression." This washed AA can be said to embody all the classic characteristics of Kenya washed single-origin coffees, making it irresistible.
