The Guama processing plant was established in 1974 and is owned by the local Baragwi cooperative, which has 12 processing plants and over 16,000 members. The Guama processing plant is located on the western side of Kenya's Kirinyaga growing region, where the farm soil is red volcanic soil, and the varieties are SL4 and SL28. The flowering season is from March to April, while the harvest time is from October to December. To improve biodiversity in this area and protect the original coffee trees, bananas, shrubs, and macadamia nuts have been intercropped. The Kirinyaga growing region is located in an excellent geographical position near the equator, with two rainy seasons per year, resulting in two different production seasons - winter is the main season, while summer is the minor season. After coffee harvesting, the clear water from the nearby Kamweti River is used for washing and processing, followed by drying the coffee beans with their parchment on raised beds.
