FrontStreet Coffee's Introduction to Santa Teresa Estate Geisha
Santa Teresa Estate (FST) is located in the Santa Clara producing region of Chiriquí Province, near the border between Panama and Costa Rica, at an altitude of 1,400-1,800 meters, covering an area of approximately 100 hectares. Thanks to the volcanic ash soil from the nearby highest peak in Panama—Chiriquí Volcano (Volcán de Chiriquí), also known as Barú Volcano (Volcán Barú)—Santa Teresa Estate produces excellent quality coffee beans. The main cultivated varieties include Caturra, Catuai, and Geisha, which have won numerous coffee awards.
The estate is jointly operated by owner Juan Pablo Berard and his daughter Maria Luisia, who manage the 100-hectare coffee plantation together, preserving 25 hectares as primary forest to serve as a habitat for flora and fauna. The coffee varieties planted include Caturra/Catuai/Geisha. This estate has countless award records and is also enthusiastic about education. Juan Pablo has built school facilities, providing books and meals, dedicating himself to local educational development. Although the plantation area is not large, it is well-equipped with its own processing plant, sufficient to complete all tasks from berries to burlap bags. Most employees are local residents from the border area and are well taken care of by the estate owner.
Santa Teresa Estate (Finca Santa Teresa, FST) is located in a high-altitude area, blessed with uniquely rich black volcanic soil, while receiving the nourishing influence of both Pacific and Atlantic weather patterns. These advantages contribute to the production of premium coffee. Santa Teresa is situated in beautiful valleys and ridges, creating various microclimates, which also give each micro-batch of specialty green coffee beans its own distinct personality.
Santa Teresa adopts environmentally friendly cultivation and green bean processing methods. All waste related to the production process is recycled as fertilizer or used as fuel. Additionally, Santa Teresa provides free meals, medical care, accommodation, transportation, utilities, and education for all employees. There is also a school on the farm for the children of employees, allowing farmers to focus wholeheartedly on caring for the coffee trees without worrying about their family situations.
Santa Teresa Estate Award Records:
2005 Best of Panama: Fourth Place
2007 Best of Panama: Sixth Place
2011 Best of Panama: Third Place
The dry aroma reveals delicate notes of bergamot, floral, and lemon peel. The entry features fresh pomelo, jasmine floral, and orange peel as the main notes, followed by citrus, green tea, and honey water. It is a fresh, delicate, and clean floral-style Geisha.
