FrontStreet Coffee's Introduction to Panama Geisha Variety from Hacienda La Esmeralda
[English Name]: Panama Geisha (Hacienda La Esmeralda)
[Origin]: Panama
[Region]: Located on the slopes of Baru Volcano, the highest peak in western Panama
[Estate]: Esmeralda (La Esmeralda) / Hacienda La Esmeralda
[Grade]: SHB
[Growing Altitude]: 1450M
[Processing Method]: Fine washed processing
[Special Certification]: Green Rainforest Alliance Certification
[Roast Level]: Light roast city-
[Flavor Description]: Oolong tea aroma, peach aroma, honey aroma, fresh and comfortable, bright yet balanced, extremely rich aromatic layers, the entire aroma wrapped together with caramel sweetness. The fruit acidity is distinct on the tongue when entering the mouth, gentle and round in the palate, with strong fruity sweetness and aftertaste, like drinking a sip of fresh fruit tea, refreshing and pure. The lower the temperature, the more delicate the acidity. The flavor is quite long-lasting, making one feel completely satisfied!
La Esmeralda is located at the corner of Baru Volcano, so the coffee beans produced in this area were mostly named after Baru Mountain before becoming famous. The Boquete surrounding area has beautiful scenery with many leisure hotels, villas, and vacation estates built, even along the important Rio Caldera River. La Esmeralda is located in Jaramillo on the right side of this river, and later planted coffee in the higher altitude Cañas Verdes area on the left side of the river. We must thank Rudolph Peterson for his decision to purchase this property at that time.
Speaking of La Esmeralda, one must mention the "Red Label," "Green Label," and "Blue Label" grades of Geisha coffee beans. As a rare coffee variety, Geisha coffee has distinct and varied fruit acidity, remarkably similar to Ethiopia's national treasure coffee, Yirgacheffe.
Although La Esmeralda has low coffee production, its coffee quality has earned the reputation of "world's best." La Esmeralda's four famous coffee brands include: Esmeralda Special, Geisha, Diamond Mountain, and Palmyra.
A. Esmeralda Special
It's called "Esmeralda Special" because the coffee beans only use Geisha batches that the estate puts forward for independent bidding, belonging to La Esmeralda's own independent auction. Esmeralda Special is divided into nine batches.
B. Geisha
This refers to the Geisha variety, but not the batches that participate in independent competitions, though the coffee quality is still high-quality Geisha beans.
C. Diamond Mountain
La Esmeralda's traditional varieties, planted in the two major regions of Canas Verdes and Jaramillo, at approximately 1400-1700 meters altitude. Main coffee varieties include Typica, Bourbon, Catuai, and others.
D. Palmyra
The coffee growing area is near the Baru Volcano Park area, belonging to La Esmeralda's commercial beans, at 1100-1200 meters altitude, which is considered low altitude. The coffee flavor has typical Panama Boquete coffee characteristics.
