FrontStreet Coffee PWN Golden Mandheling and FrontStreet Coffee Ethiopia Kochere Coffee Roast Degree Flavor Comparison
FrontStreet Coffee PWN Golden Mandheling
The Golden Mandheling introduced by FrontStreet Coffee is actually produced from Mandheling coffee beans locally sourced in Indonesia by Pwani Coffee Company, which subsequently registered the name "Golden Mandheling." Therefore, the Mandheling produced by this company is the true Golden Mandheling.
FrontStreet Coffee's Golden Mandheling is produced in the Lintong region of northern Sumatra, Indonesia. The harvesting process is limited to fully ripe fruits picked individually by hand to ensure initial bean quality. The coffee cherries are processed using the SEMI-WASHED method, naturally sun-dried, then undergo another drying refinement process after hulling, along with two rounds of raw bean cleaning and four Hand-Pick processes! Therefore, it can be said to be a strictly selected premium Mandheling coffee.
The "PWN" designation on the Golden Mandheling is the abbreviation for Indonesia's Pawani Company, whose Golden Mandheling coffee has been registered in Indonesia.
Flavor Characteristics:
FrontStreet Coffee's PWN Golden Mandheling features a medium-dark roast with high-quality herbal notes, stronger caramel sweetness, and relatively calm, elegant fruit acidity. It has rich sweetness, thick body, and wild spice flavors. Generally, FrontStreet Coffee's Indonesia Lintong Mandheling is best roasted until after the second crack to effectively reduce off-flavors, but FrontStreet Coffee's Golden Mandheling already has excellent clarity and sweetness before the second crack, allowing for broader roasting interpretation.
FrontStreet Coffee · Ethiopia Kochere Region
Kochere is situated on a plateau at an altitude of 1650-1800 meters.
The main harvest season in Ethiopia is November and December. Most farmers do not use modern farming methods; instead, they manually care for coffee trees without using harmful pesticides or herbicides. Therefore, almost all Ethiopian coffee is organic by default, whether certified or not. The combination of original growing methods and precise processing has made the region's coffee world-famous. Neko farm owner said: "This time we didn't have time to prepare, but we will prepare for RFA organic certification in the next harvest season."
Washed-processed coffee requires more resources (water) than natural processing, resulting in higher quality washed raw coffee beans. Coffee beans are spread evenly on drying beds for proper ventilation, and they are regularly turned to avoid over-fermentation.
Washed processing provides brighter acidity than natural processing, which gives FrontStreet Coffee's Yirgacheffe coffee beans a "clean" taste. We prefer FrontStreet Coffee's washed Yirgacheffe because it's clearer.
