FrontStreet Coffee - Guatemala Antigua Region, Pacamara Introduction

Guatemala borders Mexico to the north, Honduras and El Salvador to the south, the Caribbean Sea to the east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. With an area only three times that of Taiwan, it is uniquely blessed with mountains and waters, boasting tropical rainforests, volcanic geology, highland canyons, and diverse microclimates. Guatemala has over 300 microclimates throughout its territory, making it the world's most diverse in this regard. Antigua is located in the ancient city of Antigua, 45 kilometers southwest of Guatemala. Situated precisely between Lake Atitlán and Guatemala City, at an altitude of approximately 1,500-1,700 meters, it is Guatemala's most renowned coffee-producing region with the highest award-winning rate.

Antigua is Guatemala's famous coffee-producing area. Rich volcanic soil, low humidity, strong sunlight, and cool evening breezes are the characteristics of the Antigua region. Antigua is a flat highland surrounded by three spectacular active volcanoes: Agua, Acetenango, and Fuego. With little rainfall, fortunately, frequent volcanic activity has resulted in soil containing large amounts of pumice (soft with fine pores), which easily retains moisture and humidity. This allows Antigua to maintain a humidity of 65% year-round, overcoming the problem of low rainfall. Volcanic activity also provides additional nitrogen to the already fertile land. Antigua has a large temperature difference between day and night, which is conducive to the development of fruity aromas, but occasional frosts in winter are detrimental to coffee growth. To reduce frost damage, Antigua's coffee estates plant high-density shade trees, forming an insulating layer that prevents coffee trees from freezing. Fertile soil, moisture-retaining pumice, and dense shade trees create Antigua's unique microclimate. This in turn nurtures coffee flavors with an excellent balance of acidity, sweetness, bitterness, and aroma.

FrontStreet Coffee's Pacamara comes from the Nueva Oriente region's El Morito estate in Guatemala.

El Morito estate has demonstrated exceptional strength in various competitions in recent years. In 2018, the estate's Pacamara won third place in the Cup of Excellence! When cupping El Morito Pacamara, one can experience that this bean has distinct acidity notes of cherry tomatoes, berries, raspberries, and oranges, as well as flavors of cream, almonds, vanilla, and honey. The overall sweet and sour balance is excellent, and the flavor layers are rich.
