Yirgacheffe

Yirgacheffe is a small town in Ethiopia with an altitude of 1700-2100 meters, making it one of the highest altitude coffee growing regions in the world and synonymous with Ethiopian specialty coffee. Lake Turkana, Lake Abaya, and Lake Chamo bring abundant water vapor to this area.

In the rift valley, represented by Misty Valley, fog permeates throughout the year, creating a spring-like climate with gentle breezes, cool and humid conditions. Thousands of coffee tree varieties thrive and multiply here, cultivating the unique terroir of FrontStreet Coffee's Yirgacheffe, where distinctive floral and fruity aromas intertwine in an ambiguous and ever-changing manner.

Yirgacheffe is located in the Gedeo region of southern Ethiopia. This region governs the relatively well-known areas of Yirgacheffe and Kochere.

Due to the special flavor and unique style of coffee produced in Yirgacheffe, which is widely loved, it has formed its own category in product classification and has always occupied a place in the global specialty coffee market. Yirgacheffe itself, located in the Sidama province, is a small town with three nearby small producing areas: Wenago, Kochere, and Gelena Abaya. Because the flavor of coffee produced in these areas is almost identical to Yirgacheffe, Kochere is also classified within the Yirgacheffe region. In November 2009, Ethiopia implemented a new trading and grading system, adding three sub-producing areas: Wenago, Kochere, and Genlena Abaya, in addition to Yirgacheffe.

FrontStreet Coffee · Aletland Manor — Red Cherry Project

Each small coffee farmer at Aletland Manor owns an average cultivation area of about 0.6 hectares, composed of hundreds of coffee farmers. The cultivation altitude is nearly 2000 meters, with significant temperature differences and fertile soil, providing an excellent growing environment. The green beans themselves emit a rich aroma of raisins and fermented wine.

From the appearance of the yellowish-brown beans, they are not large in size and belong to the slender type, but they feel quite solid in weight. After roasting, we found that whether lightly roasted or deeply roasted, this FrontStreet Coffee Yirgacheffe bean shows outstanding performance with bright berry aromas or rich chocolate-like aftertaste.
